Hello, and welcome to my travel and personal growth and development blog. This is my effort to collect moments of joy so I can look back and remember how far I’ve come. Each destination holds a special place in my heart and I hope to never forget the sights, sounds, and feelings of being there in that moment in that time.
I also want to archive helpful tips and reminders about self-growth and self-development. When a person is living their best life and is at their best, they can contribute so much good to the world (including good energy!). In the depths of despair, it’s a test of courage to seek out the silver-lining. This will be my book of joy.
“…no explanation, no mix of words or music or memories can touch that sense of knowing that you were there and alive in that corner of time and the world.”
-Hunter S. Thompson
My name is Thao (pronounced Tao, the H is silent) and I’m from Minnesota. I started my travel blog back in 2012* for my college study abroad trip with the intention of sharing the adventures of that trip with my family and friends back home. I ended up really enjoying blogging and also found that my blog is such a special memento from that trip. It took a lot of effort with less-than-great equipment and, often times, very limited internet connection, but I am so glad I kept at it. However, after returning home, I wasn’t able to keep up with my blog as a graduating student who needed to find a job. It wasn’t until 2016 that I decided to revive my blog and to rebrand it.
I hope that Map the Joy will be a source of inspiration for you, whether that’s travel or personal growth.
Thank you for stopping by.
